Castle Game Jam is a rapid, result-driven game development retreat where teams create prototypes over the course of 1 week in a real 14th-century castle. The event repeats only once every 2 - 5 years and this time is hosted in Jaunpils castle, Latvia. Teams of 1 to 4 developers are formed either beforehand or during the event itself. Expect to create games, share knowledge, form connections, hear talks, enjoy BBQs, sauna, medieval activities, and networking with 150+ professional developers from multiple continents. We value community safety and inclusivity, which is why Castle Game Jam also provides a dedicated women’s safety contact for attendees throughout the event.
Want to turn Castle Game Jam into a vacation to remember? Guest tickets are available for kids and spouses, and well-behaved dogs are welcome as long as their owners keep the area clean and ensure they do not disturb other attendees.
Accommodation
Basic accommodation. Included in every ticket except the conference ticket. Participants sleep in the nearby Jaunpils school and must provide their own mattress, blankets, and pillow or order them through our store. Rooms are divided by gender and snoring. The building features toilets and showers. |
Private bedrooms in the castle. We offer a limited number of fancy castle rooms, some with private bathrooms and even a jacuzzi. Rooms are allocated through an auction ending on 2026-05-16 17:00 GMT+03:00. If a new leading bid is placed, the deadline extends automatically to keep at least 15 minutes remaining. Each participant may win only one room. Winning a room cancels your other bids. Bids are binding and cannot be lowered or cancelled. Rooms may be shared and often fit extra air mattresses. Participate through the website after creating an account. |
Castle hostel. Economy rooms are located in the oldest part of the castle and contain 5 to 8 single beds in each room. Toilets and showers are located next to the rooms for guest comfort. Single beds in shared rooms can be booked through the website. |
Double bed in the castle mill. Located just a few meters from the castle, the historic water mill has been converted into a simple and comfortable hostel for events. These double beds provide a practical shared accommodation option close to the heart of the jam. Double beds in shared rooms can be booked through the website. |
Tenting. We offer free space for tents next to the castle at no additional charge. Participants must provide their own tent and all sleeping amenities. |
Nearby guest houses. There are very limited accommodation options outside the castle area, including Guest House “Doņi” and Guest House “Ievas”. You may contact the organisers via hello@castlegamejam.com and we will try to help negotiate a special price.
